Hikers in Highbanks Metro Park may have noticed a sign referencing ruins of a former mill on the west bank of the Olentangy River. German-born Herman Mulzer operated sawmills and gristmills there from 1877 until his death in 1906. The mills provided kegs and woodchips to the breweries in Columbus’s German Village. A bedroom at the Martin Perry House features Mr. Mulzer’s hand-carved bed and mirror frame, along with several other period pieces. For more information on local history, visit powellhistory.org.
