Educational Programs

Volunteers offer specific programs for local schools and other organizations and participate in the Olentangy Local School Elementary's Pioneer Day in the spring.

Speakers are available to give presentations in the community. The programs include:

A Historic House and Garden Tour - This presentation highlights the formation of the Powell Liberty Historical Society, the effort to save and renovate the Martin-Perry House, and the role of the Powell Area Garden Club in developing and maintaining the gardens surrounding the house.

From Your Valentine - The history of Victorian valentines including a collection of cards.

History of Early Schools - Sherry Carmichael presents a brief review of the evolution of schools from the early 1800's to the present. The focus is on Liberty Township of Delaware County Ohio, but the material is relevant to all. The presentation is primarily intended for elementary school children.

Hyattsville, A Railroad Town: the village, the man and his house - A review of the founding and development of Hyattsville, now Hyatts, and the people that made it happen.

Martin-Perry House - A video only presentation designed specifically for children. The objective is to develop an interest in history via a virtual tour of the house that examines some of the museum artifacts.

The History of Powell - The history of the Powell Liberty Historical Society and the history of Powell presented to the Powell Citizen's Academy, Feb. 2021

The One Room School Districts of Liberty Township - A summary of the one room schools that populated Liberty Township in the late 1800s and the first decades of the 1900s. The presentation was prepared for the January 2021 meeting of the Olentangy Rotary which was presented via Zoom.

The People of Powell - Featuring 200 years of settlers, store keepers, doctors, teachers, historians and other good people

Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Powell - The walking tour, offered each summer, highlights some of the history of Powell and the buildings that are still standing in the downtown area. Some of the key individuals behind the develop of the area are also described.

Walking Tour of the Powell Cemetery - Sherry Carmichael leads a walking tour of the Powell Cemetery highlighting some of the notable burials and reviewing a bit of Powell History along the way. The tour was recorded June 14, 2021.
